The sprinkler heads are activated by heat, and triggering the system will sound an audible bell at the exterior of the home. Since the sprinkler heads are heat activated, you don't have to worry about all the sprinklers in the house activating if only one sprinkler is subjected to heat.
Incandescant lamps create light by running electricity through a resistive filament that is heated to a high temperature, thereby glowing and producing a visible light. Incandescant lights however, are highly inefficient, as over 98% of the energy input is emitted as heat. LED lamp LED's, on the other hand, are based on the semiconductor diode. Ok, without getting too technical here and trying to put you to sleep, the basic premise is that the LED lamp uses a far more efficient technology to convert energy into light. Where an incandescent lamp may produce about 15 lumens per watt, an LED may produce as much as 70 lumens per watt. The bottom line for you? The same light for less money. Be sure to ask about upgrading to LED lighting in the kitchen.
The primary advantages to LED lighting are lower energy consumption and longer lifetime. They are also cool to the touch, and do not contain any mercury or other hazardous substances. For our kitchens, we have chosen LED over fluorescent for several reasons: They look nicer, and the warm light from the LED's vs a fluorescent fixture is more comfortable to the eyes.
There are multiple factors that will affect how much your utility bills will be each month. Your net utility costs are going to be influenced by your own usage patterns, as well as the environmental effects on the power production of your system. Just for one example, we have a family of four living in our 2795sf plan 9, and their monthly utility bill for the last year averaged $35.
VOC is an acronym for Volatile Organic Compound. VOC's are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids (such as paints and lacquers), and in some cases, may have adverse health effects. VOC's are common in our environment, both indoors and outdoors, and we are subjected to them everyday. Wherever possible, we have chosen products which have low VOC's in order to improve the quality of your indoor environment.
A whole house fan is a simple and inexpensive method of cooling a house. The fan draws cool outdoor air inside through open windows and exhausts hot air through the attic to the outside. So, you would only use the fan when the outside temperature is lower than the inside temperature - generally at night.
Shastan Homes can help you with any residential building project. While we are busy developing the lots in our Glenwood Avenue Subdivision, we can also build a custom solar home for you on your own lot. If you like one of our plans, but you want to modify a few things, we can do that as well. We work with local Architect Frank Glazewski, and he can help you with all of your design needs for your Shastan Home.
